When thinking of Marvel, one thinks of Spiderman, Ironman, or The Hulk. Not many know about the so called Guardians of the Galaxy. Thus when the Guardians of the Galaxy movie was announced I had speculations about its success due the not very well known superheroes. Well fear not because Guardians of the Galaxy is summer blockbuster that absolutely no one should miss. Hilarious, action packed, and full heart, Guardians of the Galaxy is one of this Summers absolute bests.
Directed by James Gunn, and staring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, Guardians is able to blend these talents in marvelous ways. Chris Pratt is hilarious as Starlord, a rogue human thief with a sarcastic sense of humor and a over the top ego. Zoe Sladana does well as daughter of Thanos, Gamora, although I do wish to know a little more of her back story because its truly interesting. Dave Bautista comes off a little short to begin with, but quickly becomes a hilarious delight as strong man Drax. Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper are the real stars though, voicing Groot and Rocket respectively as they add a fun unique sense of humor and heart to their characters.
The biggest issue I had with the film was unfortunately the villain. I felt as if Ronan, just wasn't as strong a character as former Marvel villains(but who knows I might just be spoiled with Loki :D). While Lee Pace did not do a bad job by any means I just didn't feel to attached to his character as I do with other Marvel villains.
Guardians of the Galaxy also has some wonderful visual effects, and one of the greatest soundtracks I've ever heard in a movie. (I highly recommend buying it on Itunes). These go hand and hand to make Guardians a pleasure to behold.
In conclusion, Guardians of the Galaxy is an insanely fun thrill ride filled with a wacky sense of humor and tons of heart. Although plagued by a sub par villain, Guardians still lives through its insanely fun protagonists and its willing to change the way we see Marvel movies.
Final Verdict: 9 out of 10
+ Great Protagonists
+ Humor and heart
+ Visuals and soundtrack
