"Love is the one thing that transcends time and space"
As I take in the spectacle that I just had the pleasure to behold, only one word pops into my head, Ambition. Ambition is the force that skyrockets Interstellar literally out of this world and ambition is the gravity that pulls it back down all the same.
Interstellar is written and directed by the masterful Christopher Nolan. Known for his intelligent pieces, Nolan always leaves the audience thinking when you come out of his movies. Interstellar is absolutely no exception, for it is truly mind boggling. It could take hours, days even to warp your head around the science that Interstellar is based upon. This science is masterfully crafted in this movie and engulfs the viewers interest. This especially has to do with the bold take on relativity that this movie plays with, and it is able to execute it grandly. It is evident that Nolan put his heart and soul into this movie, and you cant help but admire his (wait for it) ambition.
Interstellar is undeniably the best looking film this year, if not the best in a long time. The visuals are breathtaking, and the cinematography is top notch, but its the all encompassing feel of being in the vast unknown that really shows the true beauty of Interstellar. The wormhole scenes, the black-hole scene, hell every scene in this movie is crafted to the best possible point that the filmmakers could achieve, and that is truly something special. Lets not forget the incredible sound design and score by the one and only Hans Zimmer. At this point it hard to see if that man can do any wrong in creating a score. Please I implore you if you can go see this movie in either IMAX or XD as it increases the enjoyment of the movie tenfold.
Well my friends we are truly in the midst of a golden age. Matthew Mcconaughey has done it again, as he knocks the role of Cooper out of orbit in a truly stellar performance. HEs the rock that keeps the movie afloat, and his character is so damn likeable that you cant help but root for him. All other performances are solid in this movie, but just are truly outshined by Mcconaughey. Hes good....damn good.
Despite all the noteworthy praise, Interstellar is not a perfect movie. Narrative bumps here and there can throw viewers off and the ending seemed a little far fetched to me. Unfortunately these flaws did take me out of the movie some and are just too large not to note.
I cant say more to risk possible spoilers other than you NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE. If you are a movie lover, a Nolan fanboy, a casual movie-goer, or hell just a random person you must experience this movie. This is a masterpiece so well crafted and handled with such care that despite it apparent flaws, it shows the true beauty of ambition. This is a movie that will be discussed and debated until the end of time and by God does it deserve it. I walked out of Interstellar with the word ambition in my head, but only later did I see that this ambition led to love. Its love that is at the forefront of the heartwarming message of this movie and it is love in which Interstellar was crafted with. Way to make me love Christopher Nolan. Bravo.
