Heroes in a half made movie.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have always had a special place in my heart. With their wide success through comic books, video games, and T.V shows, they haven't had the best of luck on the big screen. The movies in the 90's, why they were fun, they just didn't have the depth that I wanted to see. In the 2014 movie the depth is completely thrown away, but has humor and heart to bring back up from the sewers, a little.
Directed by Jonathon Liebesman, and starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Johnny Knoxville, Alan Richtson, Noel Fisher, and Jeremy Howard, TMNT has a strange looking cast and crew. Megan Fox has never been that good of an actress, but in this movie you can tell that she is getting a little better, but still has A LOT of room to grow. Will Arnett' character in the movie does nothing more than make the audience feel uncomfortable, as he came off a tad bit pervy.
The turtles in this movie are by far the best thing going for it. All of the turtles have their unique and respective personality's that we know and love, and the movie does a good job of showing them. The interaction between the brothers is also fantastic, and really made me interested in their characters. All of the turtles have their own sense of humor, and nearly all their jokes hit which makes it easily the best part of the movie.
Unfortunately nearly all the other characters in this movie are completely misused or useless. This is especially has to do with Master Splinter and Shredder, which is a real big hit to the movie because these two are such important and vital characters, and having them completely useless in this movie really took it down a notch.
The visuals and sound in this movie are not the best but also not the worst. The movie does have some cool looking scenes, (see the avalanche scene) but nearly all scenes without having to do with CGI are plagued by the terrible virus known as shaky cam. The soundtrack does nothing more than get the job done, and seeings as the GOTG is still in theaters, this soundtrack should be ashamed.
In conclusion TMNT does have some things going for it. Although it has awesome interaction between the Turtles, the other characters really do bring the movie down. All together TMNT is a an O.K attempt at bringing these heroes to life, but falls short, and leaves us with an empty pizza box mourning for more.
Final Verdict: 6 out of 10
